Ward Vs. Kovalev: The Judgment Day Set For June 17
Good news for boxing fans!
A much awaited rematch between unified Light Heavyweight Champion–Andre Ward and Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev—is scheduled for June 17 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
The match–Ward Vs. Kovalev II—is referred as “No Excuses” by the event organizer. Boxing lovers can enjoy the match on their screen on Pay-Per-View basis as HBO will be producing and distributing the match at 9:00 pm ET/6:00 pm PT.
It is reported that Team Ward and Team Kovalev will be officially announcing the fight on the tenth day of April in their three-city press tour—New York, Bay Area and Los Angeles.
Both players seemed motivated about this rematch but Ward did not reveal anything much regarding the match. Krusher, on the other hand, is excited. He expects Ward in the ring and is eager to prove himself in front of boxing fans as he had performed below the par in his last couple of fights. He considers the rematch as most crucial fight of his entire boxing career.
Who is Andre Ward?
Undoubtedly, Andre Ward, 33, is skillful and talented American boxer. He is an Olympic gold medalist who won it in Athens Olympic in 2004 under light heavyweight category. The win placed Ward in the likes of Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and Oscar De La Hoya. He became professional boxer in December 18, 2004. He was awarded fighter of the year in 2011. In the course of climbing stairs of success he defeated many popular boxers like Paul Smith, Sullivan Barrera and Alexander Brand.
He permanently imprinted his name on the mind of boxing fans in November 19, 2016. He defeated Kovalev and claimed unified World Light Heavyweight Champion back then. He (Kovalev) was the reigning WBA, IBF and WBO titleholder at that time.
Who is Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev?
Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev, on the other hand, is a Russian boxer of 34. He dominated light heavyweight category of the boxing for long time. Boxing world properly noticed him in 2013 when he clinched WBO Light Heavyweight World Title by beating Nathan Cleverly. Nathan was unbeaten till then.
He tucked WBA and IBF Light Heavyweight World Titles in his belt after beating Bernard Hopkins—“The Alien”.
He bagged 26 victories by knockout out of his 30 career victories. It was Ward who stopped him (Kovalev) on his way to grand success in 2016.
People regard both boxers as beast in the ring. Ward will be defending his title against Kovalev whereas he (Kovalev) will be in revenge mood. The match is going to be nail biting affair for the people like us who will be seating in front of the TV set and supporting either of them.
